Texas Rangers Take Down Cleveland Guardians 3-1 cover image

The Texas Rangers took down the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 in yet another contest at Surprise Staduim.

On Monday afternoon, Spring Training baseball rolled on for the Texas Rangers as they completed another day of Cactus League play.

Texas took down the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 in yet another contest at Surprise Staduim.

With the win, the Rangers' Cactus League record improved to 7-5. With wins over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday and the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, Texas has now won three games in a row.

Originally, Nathan Eovaldi was scheduled to start the game against Cleveland, but Rangers manager Skip Schumaker decided that he would be better suited to start a “B Game” on a backfield.

Instead, it was Austin Gomber who got the start as he continues to wedge his name intot he battle for the fifth starter position.

Gomber put forth a solid outing, going two innings, allowing two hits and a run while walking two and striking out three.

Pitching behind Gomber were several key Rangers relievers, and it was a solid day for the Texas bullpen.

Jakob Junis allowed two hits in his lone inning of work, but was able to strand both runners, leading to a scoreless frame with one strikeout.

Cole Winn also threw a scoreless innings continuing his very strong Spring Training. Winn figures to be one of Schumaker’s multi-inning options out of the bullpen.

Josh Sborz also threw yet another scoreless inning as he looks to battle for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen.

Offensively, there were plenty of regulars in the lineup for the Rangers, and many of them had an impact.

Evan Carter once again led off, but this time played left field, going 0-2 with a pair of strikeouts as his Spring Training batting average lowered to .167.

Wyatt Langford got the start in center field and had the big swing of the afternoon, blasting a two-run home run to account for two of the Rangers' three runs.

Corey Seager was back in the lineup after battling an illness, and he picked up a base hit while playing at shortstop.

Joc Pederson had yet another base hit as he continues to put forth a solid Spring in hopes of a bounce-back 2026 season.

Jake Burger, Josh Smith, and Sam Haggerty also each played but did not record any base hits this afternoon.

The Rangers will have a rare Spring Training off day tomorrow before being back in action on Wednesday, where they will take on Team Brazil in an exhibition before they take off for the World Baseball Classic.

That game is expected to be the Rangers' Spring Training debut for newly acquired Brandon Nimmo.
