The Texas Rangers secured a series victory against the Seattle Mariners thanks to an 11-hit, four-home run game.
The Texas Rangers took down the Seattle Mariners 7-3 to secure a four-game series victory on Monday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
After dropping Sunday's contest 6-4, the Rangers made sure Seattle wasn't able to salvage this four-game slate.
In an odd Friday-to-Monday series, the Rangers continued their stretch of 13 games in 13 days. They improved to 54-52 on the year and are now 28-25 at home.
This marked a crucial series victory for a Rangers team that scored all seven of their runs in the first three innings. After leading 1-0 early, Seattle was able to answer, but Texas then put up a three-spot in both the second and third innings.
Joc Pederson can guide this team to playoffs
It wouldn't be an over-exaggeration to say that Joc Pederson himself could guide this Rangers team to the playoffs. The 34-year-old homered on the fifth pitch in the bottom of the first, one that happened to be an 88-mph sweeper.
The California native wasn't done, though, as he also hit a three-run shot in the second inning. Pederson wasn't messing around as he hit a pair of home runs on the first six pitches he saw against George Kirby.
In the end, Pederson drove in four of the team's seven runs. Pederson himself drove in more runs in two innings than the Mariners scored in nine innings as a team combined.
Ezequiel Duran, Jake Burger joined party
Pederson is giving Jake Burger a run for his money when it comes to which player is going to lead this team in homers by the end of the season. Burger, 30, was the second Rangers player to homer in the third inning. His 403-foot bomb was a two-run shot that put the team in a comfortable, 7-2 lead over the Mariners.
Just three batters prior, Ezequiel Duran crushed a 436-foot bomb to left-center. Once again, the Rangers pounced on Kirby early in an inning as it marked their second leadoff homer in Kirby's first three innings.
Interestingly, the Rangers' four homers came on three different pitches. Pederson and Burger took the sweeper yard, while Pederson also connected with a sinker and Duran wasn't fooled by Kirby's four-seam fastball.
11-hit game for the Rangers
In total, four of the Rangers' 11 hits were home runs. This team made sure to end the Mariners series with a statement victory, one that saw everyone but Wyatt Langford or Elias Diaz record a hit for Texas.
The Rangers' current slate of 19 straight games in a permanent dome or retractable roof will continue as they head straight to St. Petersburg for a three-game slate against the Tampa Bay Rays from July 28-30.
