Jacob deGrom dominated the St. Louis Cardinals to secure his 100th career win, proving his enduring brilliance.
Jacob deGrom added another milestone to his remarkable career Monday night as the Texas Rangers opened their series against the St. Louis Cardinals with a 2-1 road victory.
The veteran right-hander earned the win and recorded the 100th victory of his major-league career after delivering another strong outing.
DeGrom worked five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out eight batters before turning the game over to the bullpen, which preserved the result the rest of the way.
Even without reaching the six-inning threshold required for a quality start, the outing ranked among deGrom’s most dominant performances of the season.
The Cardinals consistently struggled to square him up.
DeGrom generated 17 whiffs and collected eight strikeouts across only five innings, showing the type of overpowering arsenal that has defined much of his career.
The performance also continued a strong rebound following a difficult stretch in May.
Across two starts during that rough patch, deGrom surrendered 10 runs in nine innings. Since then, he has responded by allowing just two earned runs across his next 11 innings.
While his numbers are not quite at the peak level seen during his most dominant years, deGrom has delivered exactly what the Rangers hoped for this season: health and high-end production.
Through 64.2 innings, the right-hander owns a 3.48 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 78:13 K:BB.
DeGrom’s Legacy
The milestone itself carries additional significance when viewed through a modern lens.
DeGrom reached 100 career wins despite spending much of his career with New York Mets teams that often struggled to provide consistent run support.
For that reason, his win total does not fully reflect the level of performance he has sustained throughout his career.
In today’s game, reaching 100 wins has become increasingly uncommon for starting pitchers due to changing workloads and usage patterns.
That context makes deGrom’s accomplishment more meaningful.
Among pitchers from the last century, few have matched the combination of dominance and efficiency that deGrom has displayed throughout his career, placing him in conversations alongside accomplished names such as Hoyt Wilhelm and Clayton Kershaw.
DeGrom’s long-term legacy will remain a topic of discussion whenever Hall of Fame conversations begin.
Monday’s outing added another milestone to that résumé while also giving Texas an important win to begin the series.
