The Mets and Rangers are in advanced talks on a major trade that would send Brandon Nimmo to Texas and bring Marcus Semien to New York, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Neither team has confirmed the discussions, and Nimmo must approve any deal due to his full no-trade clause.

The New York Mets and Texas Rangers are reportedly engaged in serious trade discussions that could send longtime Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo to Texas in exchange for Marcus Semien, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. As of now, neither team has publicly confirmed a deal.

Nimmo, who inked an eight-year, $162 million contract with the Mets in December 2022, retains a full no-trade clause, meaning he would have to agree to any trade.

By contrast, Semien, under a seven-year, $175 million contract that he signed with the Rangers in December 2021, reportedly does not have a no-trade clause.

This potential move would mark a significant shake-up for both teams. The Mets would gain a veteran infielder in Semien, while the Rangers would acquire a productive, high-on-base percentage outfielder in Nimmo.

Talks are said to be progressing, but with Nimmo’s trade protection, completing a deal will require his buy-in, adding a potentially complex layer to the negotiations.
