After missing his 33rd game of the season, the Texas Rangers will finally have their superstar shortstop back in the lineup.

The Rangers officially announced they have activated Corey Seager from the seven-day Injured List. Seager missed the last 12 games with a concussion that he incurred from a collision with Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen on June 11 at Kauffman Stadium. Texas was just 4-8 during that stretch.

Since the start of the 2023 campaign, Texas is 204-187 (.522) in games in which Seager appears and 83-92 (.474) without their slugging shortstop.

Seager will bat third and play shortstop in Thursday night’s series-opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.

“You’ve seen what a healthy Corey Seager does to our lineup,” Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Thursday morning.

“He [Seager] not only makes the lineup deeper, but various different positions change as well. [Ezequiel] Duran will now play different positions and fill needs where, if guys need days off, we can still utilize him in different spots.

“The middle of the order bat is real,” Schumaker continued while discussing Seager’s return. “We need that production desperately, you see what Wyatt Langford has done now that he’s back in our lineup, and the production, and now that Evan Carter is out, providing some really good center field play.

“The reality is, Corey Seager is the best bat in our lineup that we’ve missed for a long period of time, and I’m really excited to see what it looks like when he and Wyatt are back in there together,” Schumaker finished.

To make room for Seager on the active roster, the Rangers placed infielder/outfielder Cody Freeman on the 10-day IL with a herniated disc.

Freeman has not appeared in a game in nearly one week. He went 3-for-15 (.200) with one walk and one run scored in 6 games (three starts) during his second stint with the Rangers since being recalled on June 13. In seven Major League games with Texas this season, Freeman is batting .235 (4-17) while making three starts, two at second base and one in left field.

Texas also officially announced that the club has released infielder Blaine Crim so he may pursue opportunities in Asia.

Crim hit 263 (20-76) in 21 games with Triple-A Round Rock after he was required by the club back on May 23.
