The Texas Rangers have activated Wyatt Langford from the 10-day Injured List and sent Josh Smith to Triple-A Round Rock.
One of the Texas Rangers' big hitters will be back in the lineup earlier than the club originally expected.
Prior to the club’s Thursday night rubber match against the Los Angeles Angels, star outfielder Wyatt Langford was officially activated from the 10-day Injured-List.
Back on June 27, Langford was scratched minutes before an eventual 7-4 Rangers win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
“It was literally right before the game,” Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said at the time. “Our trainer came in and let me know. I talked to Wyatt, but I didn't want to risk it. He said he could probably go. That's all I needed to hear, ‘probably, so I pulled him out, and he's getting looked at right now, so I haven't heard more yet.”
Langford ended up missing just 10 games with the injury. He has missed 49 games with two separate injuries this season.
Wednesday night’s game will be a fitting time for Langford’s return as the first 10,000 fans inside Globe Life Field will receive a Langford sliding catch bobblehead.
To make room for Langford on the roster, the Rangers optioned Josh Smith to Triple-A Round Rock.
Although Smith has been swinging the bat a little better since returning from his first stint in Round Rock, he is hitting just .230 on the season. Smith did connect on his first home run of the season earlier on this home stand.
