Fresh off an extended break, Texas Rangers ace Jacob deGrom returns to face the surging Chicago White Sox.

After being scratched from his final start before the All-Star break, the Texas Rangers finally revealed when veteran Jacob deGrom will be taking the mound again.

Officially, deGrom is set to start in the team's series opener against the Chicago White Sox on Monday, July 20.

DeGrom last pitched on Tuesday, July 7, in a start that saw him allow a pair of earned runs on five hits in 5.0 innings.

It marked first start that only made it five innings since Monday, June 1. Now that the coast is clear and he's been deemed ready to return to the mound, it'll be interesting to see how he looks against the American League Central leaders.

deGrom to pitch on Monday

The All-Star break certainly helped the injury-prone starter get some extra time off, added in with the fact that deGrom was left out of the team's first three games back against the Atlanta Braves.

Seeing as the Rangers continue to be in the mix to win the AL West, deGrom's health going deep into the season is going to be crucial.

Here in 2026, he's made 18 starts. deGrom is coming off a season where he made 30 starts which was the highest he's had since 2019. After going 12-8 with a 2.97 ERA a year ago, deGrom sits at 7-5 this season with a 3.49 ERA.

The Florida native is amongst the top 10 qualified starting pitchers with his 1.01 WHIP, a number that was 0.92 last season. Coming off 2023-24. where he made just nine starts, it's incredible to think that Monday will mark his 49th in 2025-26.

Erick Fedde will face deGrom

At the time of writing, the White Sox are an impressive 51-46. Their turnaround has been stunning, and Erick Fedde is helping lead the charge. He may be one game under .500 himself, but his 5-6 record and 4.15 ERA don't do him justice.

Fedde, 33, is 3-0 in his last three starts. He hasn't gone deeper than 5.1 innings in any of those outings, but he's allowed just five earned runs in that span.

Currently in his first year with the White Sox, the veteran pitcher is absolutely trending in the right direction.

Fedde last pitched against the Rangers on September 10, 2025. The Nevada native was used out of the bullpen in that game, one that saw him need 26 pitches to record three outs.

Fedde allowed an unearned run and issued a pair of walks. Earlier in 2025, he took the loss in a six-inning start against the Rangers, one that saw him allow two earned runs on four hits.
