The Texas Rangers have called up left-handed reliever Adam Mack from Triple-A Round Rock and sent Robby Ahlstrom back down.
The Texas Rangers have called up left-handed reliever Adam Macko from Triple-A Round Rock before Friday night’s series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers.
In order to make room for Macko on the roster, LHP Robby Ahlstrom has been sent down to Round Rock.
Macko was acquired by the Rangers in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays during the Trade Deadline on Aug. 3 in exchange for infielder/outfielder Josh Smith and pitching prospect Josh Stephan.
If Macko appears in a game and makes his Rangers debut, he will become the first Slovakia-born player to appear for the Rangers/Senators franchise.
Despite being born in Slovakia, Macko was drafted out of Vauxhall High School in Vauxhall, Alberta, Canada.
Back in March, Macko represented Canada at the World Baseball Classic, where he pitched 2.1 scoreless frames and was a teammate of Texas right-hander Cal Quantrill.
In 22 big-league appearances/one start for Toronto in 2026, Macko is 2-0 with three holds, a 4.91 ERA (12 ER/22.0 IP) and 10 walks against 23 strikeouts.
Since being traded to the Rangers organization, Macko has appeared five times for Round Rock – including once as a starter – posting a 5.63 ERA (5 ER/8.0 IP) with three walks and eight strikeouts. His most recent appearance came in a start last Friday at El Paso when he logged 3.0 scoreless frames with no walks and 4 strikeouts (49 pitches/33 strikes).
Macko is ranked as the 23rd-best prospect in the Texas organization according to Baseball America.
As for Ahlstrom, he returns to the minor leagues for the first time since being called up on June 1. In 36 relief appearances, he went 3-1 with a 6.03 ERA (21 ER/31.1 IP) with 10 walks and 28 strikeouts. From July 18 to Aug. 10, Ahlstrom did not allow an earned run.
Texas will open a three-game series against the MLB-best Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. The Rangers come into play with a 66-68 record but sit just a game back of first place in the American League West and two games back of the final AL Wild Card.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 38 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP Carter Baumler, Jose Corniell, and Jack Leiter, LHP Jalen Beeks and Robert Garcia, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
