The Texas Rangers have made some roster moves ahead of their Saturday afternoon showdown with the Boston Red Sox.

Texas has selected the contract of RHP Joe Ross, whom they signed to a minor-league deal in late May. Ross appeared in seven games with Triple-A Round Rock, posting a 2.92 ERA.

Luis Curvelo has been optioned back to Triple-A to make room for Ross on the active roster. Additionally, Michel Otañez has been designated for assignment.

Ross most recently pitched for the Arizona Diamondbacks this season, appearing in three games and allowing eight earned runs in 3.2 innings.

Back in 2019, Ross appeared in 27 games for the Washington Nationals, who went on to win the World Series. Ross pitched in both game three and game five of the World Series that year.

In addition to the Nationals and D-backs, Ross has made appearances for the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies.

Joe’s brother, Tyson Ross, appeared in 203 big-league games from 2010 to 2019, including 12 appearances for the Rangers back in 2017.

As for Curvelo, the young right-hander has pitched in eight games for the Rangers this season, posting a 7.56 ERA in 8.1 innings.

Curevlo pitched in the Rangers' 10-1 loss on Friday night, allowing three earned runs in an inning of work.

Otañez has pitched exclusively for Round Rock this season in his first year with the Rangers organization. In 25 games for the Express, Otañez has posted a 6.15 ERA in 26.1 innings.

The Rangers and Red Sox will play game two of their three-game set with first pitch scheduled for 3:10 PM CST.

In order to keep their streak of four straight series wins alive, the Rangers will need to win each of the last two games against Boston.

On Saturday, Jacob deGrom will take the mound for the Rangers and match up with Ranger Suarez in an elite pitching matchup.

Entering play, the Rangers are two games back of first place in the American League West and tied for the final AL Wild Card spot.

Adding Ross will give Texas some extra coverage in their bullpen after a heavy workload last night and amid a stretch without many off days.

The Rangers' next off day will come on Wednesday due to the FIFA World Cup taking place at what is now Dallas Staduim across the street from Globe Life Field.
