Texas Rangers star shortstop Corey Seager revealed what helped him recover from concussion-like symptoms.
Corey Seager is back in the Texas Rangers lineup after missing nearly two weeks because of concussion-like symptoms, and the veteran shortstop recently shared details about the unusual recovery process that delayed his return.
Seager returned from the 7-day concussion Injured List on Thursday. His absence followed a mild concussion suffered during a collision at home plate with Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen on June 11.
The Rangers did not immediately place Seager on the Injured List, waiting four days after the collision before making the move. Even after he became eligible to return, Texas held him out for three additional days to ensure he had fully recovered.
Speaking with Shawn McFarland from The Dallas Morning News, Seager explained that the specific type of concussion he suffered required a much different rehabilitation process than what most people associate with concussion recovery.
Rather than limiting activity and avoiding stimulation, Seager said his treatment required the exact opposite.
According to his explanation, his symptoms lingered after the collision, leading doctors to recommend therapies centered around stimulation instead of prolonged rest. That approach is commonly used in certain concussion cases to help retrain the brain and restore normal function.
Seager explained that he essentially had to embrace the symptoms instead of avoiding them, working through the discomfort as part of the rehabilitation process.
He described the treatment as retraining his eyes and inner ear to function together again, noting that the experience was unlike anything he had previously encountered.
“You retrain your eyes and inner ear to work together. It’s literally where I was at. It was something,” Seager said.
That unique recovery process explains why his return took longer than many initially expected, particularly considering he remained in the game immediately after the collision occurred.
The Rangers’ Approach With Seager
The Rangers are also taking a cautious approach with Seager’s workload now that he is back on the active roster.
After returning to the lineup on Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays, he received Friday off before starting on both Saturday and Sunday. Texas gave him a day of rest Monday when they opened a series against the Cleveland Guardians, and he missed last night’s game with back discomfort.
The organization hopes the gradual schedule will help Seager fully regain his rhythm while avoiding any setbacks as he continues working his way back.
His return comes after an already difficult stretch earlier this season. Before suffering lower back inflammation in May, Seager was enduring the worst offensive slump of his career. Now healthy and feeling clear mentally, he hopes to rediscover the form that allowed him to hit at least 30 home runs in each season from 2022 to 2024.
Beyond his accomplishments, Seager has built a reputation as one of MLB’s most disciplined and professional players. He is known for his meticulous preparation, calm demeanor, and unwavering focus regardless of the circumstances. Those traits have helped him establish himself as a consistent leader both on and off the field.
Throughout his career, he has demonstrated resilience by working through adversity and remaining committed to returning at full strength whenever injuries have interrupted his season. His patient approach to the game and attention to detail have earned the respect of teammates, coaches, and opponents alike.
Seager also leads by example, allowing his work ethic and professionalism to set the standard inside the clubhouse. His ability to remain composed during challenging moments has been one of the defining characteristics of his career, making him a stabilizing presence for the Rangers.
Those qualities continue to make him one of the organization’s most valuable leaders as Texas pursues another postseason berth.
