On the Texas Rangers previous homestand, the team added No. 13-ranked prospect Cameron Cauley to their taxi squad just in case they needed him.

After taking infield and batting practice with the big-league team, Cauley was never activated for game action.

When Texas opens a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on Monday night, that will be different.

The Rangers are expected to call Cauley up prior to Monday night’s game, where he could potentially make his Major League debut.

In order to make room for Cauley on the active roster, Texas is expected to designate outfielder Jarred Kelenic for assignment.

Kelenic just scored the Rangers' winning run in Sunday afternoon’s game but was unable to make an impact offensively, hitting just .125 in only ten at-bats.

As for Cauley, in 74 games with Triple-A Round Rock this season, the young infielder hit .262 with eight home runs and 33 RBI.

With Ezequiel Duran playing in an everyday role and the Rangers' current bench structure, the team has a need for a versatile right-handed bat.

Cauley has the ability to play at almost any position, having played center field and shortstop almost equally.

Given the Rangers will face at least three left-handed starters this week and the fact that Evan Carter doesn’t play against lefties, there could be an opportunity for Cauley to get some run in center field.

Texas also was forced to play Wyatt Langford on the Injured List with a hamstring issue that will sideline him until at least after the All-Star break.

Cauley will walk into a confident clubhouse as Monday night will mark a chance for Texas to win its fifth straight game.

Entering play, the Rangers are sitting in sole possession of first place in the American League West despite their 42-42 record.

It’s been the team’s ability to score runs early and the starting pitchers' strong starts that have propelled the Rangers' recent hot run.

That same Texas pitching staff is, however, being put through the fire as the team is in the midst of a 14-game-in-14-day stretch.

The Rangers are expected to get some help on the pitching front, however, as the club is expected to bring in veteran right-hander Chris Paddack. At the time of this writing, the team has not yet confirmed the move.

Later this season, Texas will also get back left-handed starters Jordan Montgomery and Cody Bradford.
