The Texas Rangers are turning to one of their most highly regarded pitching prospects, promoting right-hander Winston Santos to the major-league roster ahead of Wednesday's matchup against the Miami Marlins.

To make room for Santos, Texas optioned right-hander Jose Corniell to Triple-A Round Rock. Once Santos appears in a game, it will mark the first major league outing of his professional career.

The call-up represents a significant milestone for a pitcher whose development has been challenged by injuries over the past two seasons.

Santos was limited for much of 2025 because of a back issue and later suffered a fractured hand during spring training this year after being struck by a comebacker.

Despite those setbacks, the Rangers have remained confident in his long-term potential.

That belief is reflected in his standing throughout the industry. Multiple prospect evaluators rank Santos among the top talents in Texas' farm system, viewing him as one of the organization's most promising young pitchers.

While his 2026 statistics at Double-A Frisco have been uneven, the raw numbers do not tell the entire story. Santos has demonstrated an ability to miss bats at an impressive rate, continuing a trend that has followed him throughout his professional career.

Command inconsistencies and a high number of home runs allowed have contributed to inflated results, but underlying indicators suggest his performance has been stronger than his ERA would indicate.

Prior to this season, Santos established himself as one of the system's breakout arms. During the 2024 campaign, he delivered strong results while advancing through multiple levels of the minor leagues, showcasing the swing-and-miss arsenal that helped elevate his prospect status.

The timing of Santos' promotion also comes as the Rangers evaluate their pitching depth.

With Jack Leiter sidelined following ankle surgery and the club navigating a tightly contested postseason race, opportunities could emerge for young pitchers to claim meaningful roles during the second half.

For the immediate future, Santos may provide length out of the bullpen while gaining exposure to the major league environment. However, if he performs well and the Rangers continue searching for rotation solutions, a larger opportunity could quickly develop.

Whether his stay is brief or evolves into something more substantial, Santos has reached a moment every prospect works toward. After overcoming injuries and continuing to climb the organizational ladder, he now has the chance to show Texas what he can offer at baseball's highest level.
