The Texas Rangers do not have a winning record yet, but they have been playing better baseball lately.
After securing a series win over the St. Louis Cardinals, the Texas Rangers are set to host the Cleveland Guardians for a three-game series beginning on Friday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Before losing to the Cardinals on Wednesday, the Rangers were on a five-game winning streak, their longest of the season. However, they were still a game below .500, and are now two games below .500 following Wednesday’s loss.
Before the series finale against St. Louis, Rangers general manager Ross Fenstermaker joined Brad Miller and Ted Emrich on Rangers Gameday to discuss the state of the team.
"Yeah, we're excited where we're at," Fenstermaker said. "You know, we haven't necessarily played our best baseball, but as of late, we've picked things up, and the five-game winning streak, we've done it a lot of different ways in terms of ways in which we've won these games.
"We've had a great collective team effort," he added. "We're obviously going to add to our group here in the very near future as Corey [Seager] and Wyatt [Langford] get closer to returning, and going to be a shot in the arm for this group, and we're excited with where we're at. We think our best days are ahead of us as we continue to play good baseball."
Seager was placed on the 10-day Injured List with lower back inflammation on May 18, and it was retroactive to May 15, and Langford was placed on the 10-day IL on April 22 with a right forearm strain. Despite their injuries, Fenstermaker believes the team is starting to come into its own.
"Yeah, I do," Fenstermaker said. "I think, you know, we've built this team in a lot of different ways to ultimately win games, and you know, we see the strength of our pitching, our defense at times, we've seen our offensive identity and approach shift at times.
"I think as of late, we've played a very fundamentally sound offensive game, which is one of some games that put us in good position," he added.
"We also have some slug in our roster as well, so we got a lot of different ways in which we can beat teams, and the way in which we're going about that, I think it affords us a lot of different opportunities in how we're going to win games."
The Rangers are currently 30-32 and sit in third place in an American League West Division that has just one winning team, the first place Seattle Mariners (33-30). Therefore, Texas is not far off from positioning itself to lead the division.
