The Texas Rangers have granted outfielder Jarred Kelenic a release from his contract.

Kelenic signed with the Rangers earlier this season and appeared in seven games but collected just one hit in 10 at-bats with the big-league club.

In seven games, Kelenic hit .125 with a .300 OBP, a .125 SLG, and a .425 OPS. He did not record a home run or an RBI, but scored two runs, one of which was game-winning.

After Kelenic was designated for assignment by Texas, he re-signed with the organization and reported to Triple-A Round Rock, where he posted solid numbers that will likely help him get another shot at the big-league level with another organization at some point sooner rather than later.

When Kelenic was brought up by the Rangers, the team certainly had use for a left-handed-hitting outfielder, especially given the injuries to both Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford at multiple points this season.

However, now Langford and Carter are back in the lineup, and Alejandro Osuna has played well in the opportunities he’s gotten this season, effectively taking away what would have been Kelenic’s bench spot.

Osuna is hitting .261 with a .351 OBP, a .306 SLG, a .657 OPS, with one home run and 23 RBI in 68 games.

Even coming into the season, the Rangers' outfield has always been pretty set with Langford, Carter, and Brandon Nimmo, so now that Osuna has grabbed the fourth outfielder role in pretty strong fashion, there is just not a huge need for someone like Kelenic.

Undoubtedly, the Rangers are in the best spot they’ve been in all season long as they enter the week leading the American League West Division.

Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young and his staff will have their work cut out for them over the next week and a half as the MLB Trade Deadline approaches.

Given the way Texas is playing now and where they stand in the playoff picture, it seems like Young will once again be in a position to buy at the deadline.

Bullpen help seems to be at the top of the Rangers' shopping list as the team needs to solidify their way of getting the ball to Jacob Latz in the ninth inning.

Starting pitching is also a bit of a weak link at the moment with the injury to Jack Leiter; however, veteran left-hander Jordan Montgomery could be set to join the Rangers' rotation as soon as this week.
