The Texas Rangers boast an undefeated 15-0 record when relievers Jakob Junis and Jacob Latz take the mound together, providing an elite bullpen blueprint for a postseason push.
The Texas Rangers have found great success this season when both Jakob Junis and Jacob Latz pitch in the same game.
According to Dallas Monning News' Shawn McFarland, the Rangers are now 15-0 when those two pitch in the same game.
He noted it may have gotten a "little hairy" in their 39th win of the year, but together, the two helped Texas take down the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-5, in the first of a four-game slate.
Jacob Latz Picked up His 15th Save
Latz was not perfect in Toronto, but he did enough to get the job done against a Blue Jays team that now has the exact same record (39-42) as Texas. After a stellar seven-inning start from Mackenzie Gore, the Rangers were able to go to Junis in the seventh and Latz in the eighth.
The 30-year-old gave up a pair of runs for the first time since Wednesday, May 13, when he gave up three, the most he's allowed in a single outing this season.
Even after giving up the pair, Latz still has an ERA of 1.89. Keep in mind, it was down to 1.46 after he picked up his 14th save on Monday, June 22. Sure, he gave up two runs in Toronto, but the team still got the job done thanks to not only Gore, but Junis being the set-up man in the eighth inning.
Jakob Junis's Phenomenal Season
At this point, 15-0 is no shortage of sample size, and Junis has done everything in his power to help the Rangers stay in a tight race in the American League West. Heading into Friday's slate, four teams are all within one and a half games of the current division leading Seattle Mariners.
Junis, 33, sports an 0.92 WHIP and 2.14 ERA this season. He has five saves himself, but more importantly, just picked up his 10th hold of the season.
Together, Junis and Latz seem to be unstoppable. They consistently pick each other up and cover for each others' mistakes, as seen with Latz giving up a pair in Toronto while Junis gave up a run in Miami back on Monday.
If the Rangers are looking to make a run this season, it's going to be on the backs of these two relievers. Junis has a blown save on Saturday, May 30, but that's his worst outing of the season, by far, which says a lot. As for Latz, he only has two blown saves but has been nearly perfect since Wednesday, May 13.
