Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker reacted to his team's 2026 season coming to a close after failing to reach the postseason.

For a third consecutive season, the Texas Rangers have failed to qualify for the postseason.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rangers' 2026 campaign came to a close as the team finished with an 80-82 record, one game worse than the 81-81 clip they finished last season with.

In his first season as Texas manager, Skip Schumaker had to navigate a seemingly revolving door of injuries and roster management to help his team stay in the race for the American League West title to the very end.

Rangers' Schumaker notes team's play

After Sunday’s game, Schumaker provided his instant reactions on just where the season went wrong.

“They gave it everything they had the whole year through 162” Schumaker told Rangers Sports Network.

“I’m grateful for that but the goal was to get to the postseason and make a run and we didn’t do that, we fell short and that’s going to hurt for a little bit. That’s the sentiment in the clubhouse, and what the coaching staff feels.”

Schumaker knows that at the end of the day, the balme lies on the Rangers for not being able to take advantage of a depleted division.

“The bottom line is, we just weren’t good enough. We weren’t good enough on the road and we weren’t good enough against team’s we should have beat. That’s a reflection on me, I’ve gotta figure out what to do this off-season and look in the mirror to move this thing forward.

Schumaker notes team's talent

“There’s too good of talent in this room for us to fall short and we’ve got to figure out a way to get back” Schumaker finished.

Despite having the opportunity to fix things ahead of the 2027 season, what they missed out on in 2026 won’t be lost on anyone in the Texas orginization.

“I think the tough part is the group of guys in that clubhouse won’t be the same because every team is different, every off-season is different. Guys go different places and that group of guys are such good people, that you bet on and I was just so excited to come to the field everyday because of the group that we have here.”

“I feel like we should be playing next month and we’re not. I think that’s always the goal so when you don’t get there, it’s frustrating and we’ve gotta figure out a way to get back. The goal’s always going to be to win and we didn’t do that enough so we gotta figure out a way to do that.”
