Texas Rangers received injury updates on a pair of outfielders, one a positive development and the other not so much.
It’s always interesting to hear someone say, “I’ve got good news, and I’ve got bad news.” That is exactly the situation the Texas Rangers found themselves in before Friday night’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers.
Texas received injury updates on a pair of outfielders, one a positive development and the other not so much.
On the positive side, right fielder Brandon Nimmo is in the lineup for Friday's tilt against the Tigers after he left the Rangers' Wednesday afternoon win over the New York Yankees with hamstring tightness.
Nimmo experienced the tightness while running the bases and was taken out of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
After the game, Nimmo expressed confidence that he would be back in the lineup on Friday, and that is indeed the case.
Entering play, Nimmo has been one of the Rangers' most productive offensive players as he is hitting .290 with an on-base percentage of .364, a slugging percentage of .460, four home runs, and 12 RBIs.
Not to mention, Nimmo has been producing long, quality at-bats at a high level while playing solid right-field defense.
As for the negative news, star left fielder Wyatt Langford experienced a setback while playing in a rehab game in Arizona.
Langford experienced some soreness in his right forearm and was removed from the game after just one at-bat.
The Rangers still don’t have a lot of information on the situation, but one thing is clear, and that’s the fact that Langford will not be ready as soon as they had hoped.
Initially, the Rangers had hoped Langford would be ready to return on Saturday, which marks the first day he is eligible to return from the IL.
However, it’s now unclear whether Langford will have to restart with swing progression or if he will be okay to jump right back into game action.
Prior to his injury, Langford was off to a bit of a slow start, hitting just .238 with one home run and four RBIs.
Both Langford and the Rangers will no doubt hope the time off allows him to get a reset and come back in stronger form than he began the season in.
As for Nimmo, the Rangers certainly dodged a bullet with the severity of his injury as hamstrings are always an area of concern.
Nimmo and the Rangers will look to start their six-game road trip off strong with a series-opening win against the Tigers.
