Austin Voth has been released by the Texas Rangers after spending less than two weeks in the organization.
The Texas Rangers and veteran right-hander Austin Voth are going their separate ways after the club granted his release from a minor-league contract.
Voth's time with the organization lasted fewer than two weeks and included just one appearance for Triple-A Round Rock. According to The Dallas Morning News, the release came at the pitcher's request, bringing a quick end to what was expected to be a depth addition for the Rangers' pitching staff.
While no official reason has been provided, the timing could indicate another opportunity has emerged elsewhere, potentially outside Major League Baseball.
Experienced journeyman searches for next opportunity
Before joining Texas, Voth opened the 2026 campaign in the Chicago White Sox organization on a minor-league deal. Although he did not earn a promotion to Chicago, he later saw brief major-league action with both the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins, making only limited appearances before returning to Triple-A.
His lone outing with Round Rock resulted in four earned runs over five innings, but that start represented only a small sample of an otherwise respectable Triple-A season.
Across 12 starts at the level this year, Voth posted a 4.01 ERA while recording a league-average strikeout rate, though he generally worked shorter outings of around four innings per start.
Recent success came overseas, in Seattle
Voth spent the 2025 season pitching in Japan with the Chiba Lotte Marines, where he logged 125 innings and delivered a 3.96 ERA, demonstrating he could still handle a regular rotation workload.
Prior to his stint overseas, he turned in one of the better relief seasons of his career with the Seattle Mariners in 2024. Used primarily out of the bullpen, Voth recorded a 3.69 ERA across 61 innings while providing dependable middle relief.
For his major-league career, Voth owns nearly 370.1 innings across multiple organizations, serving in a variety of pitching roles whenever clubs needed experienced depth.
What's next for Voth?
With his release now official, Voth immediately becomes a free agent and is free to pursue his next opportunity.
Whether that comes with another affiliated organization or overseas remains to be seen, but his recent experience in Japan and lengthy professional resume should make him an attractive option for clubs seeking veteran pitching depth during the second half of the season.
