Jesus Gamez enters the Arizona Fall League as an under-the-radar Texas Rangers pitching prospect with a high-octane fastball and two promising secondary pitches.
The Arizona Fall League will provide another opportunity for prospects across Major League Baseball to make an impression, and the Texas Rangers could have an intriguing sleeper in right-hander Jesus Gamez.
Gamez is not currently among the Rangers’ top 30 prospects, but that could change with a strong showing in the Fall League. The competition will give him an opportunity to face some of the better young hitters in baseball while showcasing an arsenal that has already generated plenty of swing-and-miss.
The right-hander spent the 2026 season with High-A Hub City, where he displayed both the upside and inconsistency that make him an interesting prospect to follow.
Gamez posted 69 strikeouts
Gamez recorded 69 strikeouts over 43.1 innings, demonstrating his ability to miss bats at a high rate. However, he also issued 47 walks during that span, creating a significant obstacle to sustained success.
His command will likely be the biggest factor in determining how much he can capitalize on his raw stuff.
Gamez has a fastball that can reach the upper 90s, giving him the kind of velocity that can make his secondary pitches even more effective. When he is able to establish the fastball in the strike zone, his breaking and offspeed offerings give hitters another challenge.
His slider and splitter have both shown the ability to generate swings and misses, adding to the potential of his overall arsenal.
The challenge for Gamez is turning those individual weapons into a more consistent pitching package. His strikeout totals show that hitters have difficulty making contact against him, but the number of free passes he allowed at Hub City prevented that dominance from translating into longer outings and more consistent results.
The Arizona Fall League could therefore be an important developmental opportunity.
With the Rangers among the organizations sending prospects to Arizona, Gamez will have a chance to work against advanced competition while continuing to develop his command. A stronger ability to attack hitters in the zone could allow his fastball and secondary pitches to play up even further.
For a prospect currently outside Texas' top 30, that combination makes Gamez worth watching.
The Fall League has historically provided an opportunity for lesser-known prospects to gain attention, and Gamez has the type of pitching profile that can quickly change his standing within the Rangers' system. His upper-90s fastball gives him an obvious foundation, while his slider and splitter provide additional weapons capable of generating swings and misses.
If Gamez can limit the walks without sacrificing the effectiveness of his stuff, he could leave Arizona with considerably more attention than he entered with.
