The Texas Rangers have unveiled their City Connect 2.0 uniforms, shifting their focus from regional baseball history to a deeper cultural tribute that reflects the Mexican and Tejano influences woven throughout the state.

With the retirement of the previous “Peagle” design — an alternate identity that celebrated the broader Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex — the Rangers’ new look embraces a different kind of storytelling. This time, the uniforms highlight heritage, artistry, and tradition tied to Texas’s diverse cultural roots.

Front and center on the jersey is the word “Tejas,” a name with historical significance. The term originates from the Caddo language and has long been associated with the region that would become Texas.

Today, it also carries meaning within Spanish and Tejano communities, representing both identity and cultural pride.

The uniform’s bold red color immediately stands out. While red has appeared in the Rangers’ past — particularly in the late 20th century — this specific shade draws from cochineal dye, a deep crimson pigment historically used in Mexican art and textiles.

The color choice connects the jersey to centuries of craftsmanship and symbolism, where the hue was often associated with importance and prestige.

Typography also plays a key role in bridging the past and present. The block “T” on the cap reflects the team’s original 1970s design, while the lettering style used for “Tejas” echoes road uniforms worn in the 1980s and early 1990s.

These elements tie the modern look back to the franchise’s visual history while incorporating new meaning.

Intricate details throughout the uniform further reinforce its cultural inspiration. A Charro-style pattern — commonly seen in traditional Mexican horseman attire and mariachi suits—runs along the sleeves and pants, as well as inside the collar and cap.

This design element pays homage to the artistry and craftsmanship found in those garments, while also acknowledging their connection to performance and celebration.

Another standout feature is the papel picado-inspired patch on the sleeve. This decorative element draws from the Mexican folk art of intricately cut paper banners, often displayed during holidays and major life events.

The design incorporates the outline of Texas, blending cultural symbolism with state pride in a visually striking way.

Altogether, the Rangers’ City Connect 2.0 uniforms represent a thoughtful evolution of the series’ purpose — moving beyond geography to celebrate the people and traditions that define Texas.
