Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker lauded his team's efforts against the Cleveland Guardians.
The Texas Rangers were able to cap off a series victory against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday with a dominant 10-0 win at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
In Sunday’s rout of the Guardians, the Rangers' batting order jumped on left-hander Joey Cantillo, which marked a positive change in production against a left-hander. After the game, manager Skip Schumaker talked about his team’s success in that regard.
"Well, the first series we were getting no hit through four or five innings, so I wish I could tell you it was completely different," Schumaker told the media. "But I just felt like we saw the ball up and out over, and we didn't chase as much tonight. I thought our game plan was really good, where we weren't in between, we didn't go back and forth.
"Sometimes we get in between on fastball change-up with the lefty, and he had a really good change-up," Schumaker added. "It's just, you know, we got it where we wanted it to start, and that's when we were able to pull good swings on it. But I felt like we were good on the cutter as well, stayed inside of it, didn't pull hook it. So, we just used a big part of the field for the most part, which is really good to see.
After getting shut out by the Guardians on Saturday, the Rangers were able to return the favor with an offensive effort that could not be slowed down. By the end of the game, Texas logged 16 hits in 39 at-bats.
"And then when we needed to, we slugged," Schumaker said. "We also had, you know, Jake Burger got some good hits, some luck involved too tonight, which I'm happy for Jake because he needed a couple of those hits to get him going again."
Now at 32-33, the Rangers are just a game below .500 and second in the American League West Division. Reaching and maintaining a .500 or winning record has been elusive for Texas for most of the year, and it has struggled on the road.
With consecutive road sets against the Kansas City Royals and Boston Red Sox next on the schedule, the Rangers will have to find a way to claw out some wins. Then, they can return home, where they have found more success.
After June concludes, the Rangers will see more of Globe life Field, and Schumaker is hopeful that will create an advantage for the club.
"You hope so," Schumaker said. "I mean, we went through the gauntlet, you know, it feels like the first two months. I mean, it's been a lot of really good teams and then a lot of road games starting.
"I mean, it feels like we were, you know, we were only home, what, three days? And we're back on the road again," he added. "It's just pretty crazy what the schedule is."
