The Texas Rangers have added top prospect Sebastian Walcott to the Arizona Fall League roster, where he is expected to play two or three times a week.

Texas Rangers fans will now have an even greater reason to tune into the 2026 Arizona Fall League.

On Monday afternoon, it was revealed that Rangers top prospect Sebastian Walcott has been added to the AFL roster.

Rangers general manager Ross Fenstermaker said that Walcott will play “two to three times per week” in the Fall League and will “continue to get defensive work on the side.

Walcott played in just 41 games this season after undergoing internal brace surgery following a UCL tear. 39 of those 41 games came at designated hitter.

Walcott produced at high level

However, when he was on the field, Walcott was producing at a high level, hitting .325 with 10 home runs and 21 RBI in 166 at-bats this season.

“It’s exciting,” Fenstermaker said when discussing how Walcott returned from injury at such a high level.

“Obviously it’s not what you anticipate happening at the start of the season, but he recovered well from that and took the time to really rework some things in his swing. He spent some time working on his body and footwork as well.” Fenstermaker said.

“He hit the ground running in Double-A Frisco; he had a near 1.000 OPS, and he made the proper adjustments that we wanted to see. They [Frisco] fell short in the Texas League playoffs, so we promoted him to Triple-A to give him the opportunity to continue to play the field, and we got about three or four games in the field,” said Fenstermaker.

Fenstermaker 'positive' about Walcott

“It’s all positive,” Fenstermaker said. “We’re really encouraged by the progress he made. Anytime a player gets injured, he can take it one of two ways, and he [Walcott] took it as an opportunity to level up in a lot of ways, and we’re really excited about the progress that he’s made.”

Walcott will be the highest-rated prospect in the entire Fall League when he suits up for the Surprise Saguaros. AFL Opening Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 3.

After the Fall League, the Rangers will re-evaluate Walcott’s progress and then determine his next steps.

There’s no doubt that Walcott is the most exciting prospect in the Texas system, and sooner rather than later, he will be knocking on the door of Globe Life Field.

Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young mentioned wanting to help the team get younger, and the 20-year-old Walcott would no doubt help them in part to accomplish that goal.
