Sebastian Walcott Among 10 Texas Rangers Non-Roster Invites cover image

Additionally, the Texas Rangers also announced 10 non-roster invites that will be using some of that equipment in big-league camp once it gets to Arizona.

Thursday was certainly a big day for Texas Rangers Spring Training, which is set to get underway in just under two weeks.

The team’s equipment trucks departed from Globe Life Field this afternoon and will make the more than 1,000-mile drive to Surprise, Ariz.

Additionally, the Rangers also announced 10 non-roster invites that will be using some of that equipment in big league camp once it gets to Arizona.

Left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber will get one of those spots as the Rangers made his minor league signing official today.

Joining him will be 10 players from within the organization, those players are the following in alphabetical order.

  • LHP Robby Ahlstrom
  • INF Cameron Cauley
  • LHP Austin Gomber*
  • OF Trevor Hauver
  • RHP Ryan Lobus
  • RHP Eric Loomis
  • LHP Dalton Pence
  • LHP Josh Trentadue
  • INF Sebastian Walcott
  • OF Aaron Zavala

Most notably is Rangers' top prospect and MLB No. 7 overall Sebastian Walcott. After having his Arizona Fall League cut short, Walcott is fully healthy and will get another season in big-league camp.

It’s highly unlikely that Walcott will break camp with the club, but he is in a good position to play at Triple-A Round Rock for the first time.

Last season, Walcott was one of the youngest players in Double-A as he hit .255 (121-474) with a .741 OPS in 124 games with the Frisco Roughriders.

Trevor Hauver will be another interesting name to watch off that list after he appeared in a career-high 109 games last year for Round Rock (AAA) and ACL Rangers (Rookie), hitting a slash line of .272/.386/.438/.824 (103-379).

Entering his age 27 season, Hauver has been in the Rangers organization since 2021, when he was acquired from the New York Yankees in the Joey Gallo trade.

Aaron Zavala is another outfielder who had a solid season after advancing to Triple-A for the first time in his career. He will be making his second straight big-league Spring Training appearance.

Switching back to the infield side of things, Cam Cauley will be a name to watch after he spent all of last season with Double-A Frisco, slashing .253/.325/.448/.773 (110-435) with 15 home runs, 7 triples, 26 doubles, and 51 RBI in 113 games.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 63 players on the club’s Spring Training roster: A full 40-man roster along with 23 non-roster invitees.

The Rangers' first full squad workout will take place on Sunday, February 15th, and the first Spring Training game on February 20th against the Kansas City Royals.
