The New York Yankees aren't traditional sellers, but they have a reliever in Camilo Doval who's been named a fit for the Texas Rangers.

The New York Yankees aren't a traditional seller at the trade deadline, but The Athletic seems to believe they'll have a few players on the move.

Tim Britton, Johnny Flores Jr., Chad Jennings, and Eno Sarris came together to compile a list of 78 players for their trade deadline big board.

Among those was Yankees reliever Camilo Doval, someone who has struggled big time this season.

The Texas Rangers isn't perfect, but it's not like any MLB team has things completely figured out in that regard. Potentially, a change of scenery could work in Doval's favor and help the Rangers make a push to win the American League West.

Doval's career is far from over

"Few things have gone right for Doval in 2026, a continuation of the struggles he's endured since landing in the Bronx at last year's deadline," they wrote. "The velocity is still there (98.6 mph average) and he can still generate ground balls.

"His xERA paints him as someone who's been terribly unlucky, with an ERA that looks a lot more league-average than worst in class. With another season of control, trading for Doval is as much as a reclamation project as it is belief that there's something that hasn't clicked yet."

The key part of that description from The Athletic is "since landing in the Bronx."

Sometimes, players simply don't work out in a certain organization. Doval is just 29 years old and he has another year of arbitration to come in 2027. Knowing he's making $6.1 million this season, that's clearly not a number the Yankees are willing to see increase next year.

A closer look at Doval's numbers

Doval has three blown saves this season, but he's had at least three each year he's been in the majors. The Dominican Republic native has an abysmal 4.86 ERA that can't be hidden, but two things really stand out, according to Baseball Savant.

Doval is an elite ground ball pitcher, and that's an understatement. He gets batters to hit ground balls 56.6% of the time which puts him in the 97th percentile. Elsewhere, he has a 98.6 mph fastball velo which is just as impressive, this time though in the 96th percentile.

In 41 games played, Doval has thrown 37.0 innings. He's coming off a solid month of June where he had a 3.48 ERA, but his ERA in July is already 6.75 as he's allowed four earned runs in just 5.1 innings.
