The Texas Rangers added speed, outfield depth by claiming Dairon Blanco off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.

The Texas Rangers have added another option to their outfield mix, claiming Dairon Blanco off waivers from the Kansas City Royals, according to reporting from Francys Romero of Beisbol FR.

Blanco had recently been designated for assignment by Kansas City as the organization made room on its 40-man roster.

The move came after the Royals signed veteran outfielder Starling Marte, which required a corresponding roster adjustment.

By claiming Blanco, Texas gains a player known primarily for his speed and defensive versatility in the outfield.

The 32-year-old has appeared in limited major-league action, but has demonstrated his ability as a base-stealing threat when given opportunities.

To accommodate Blanco on the 40-man roster, the Rangers shifted left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery to the 60-day injured list.

That procedural move opened a spot on the roster while Montgomery continues to recover from injury.

The transaction allowed Texas to add Blanco without needing to designate another player for assignment.

While the Rangers’ outfield already features several established options, Blanco provides depth and a potential late-game weapon thanks to his speed.

Players with his skill set often find roles as defensive replacements or pinch-runners late in games.

Blanco’s biggest asset throughout his professional career has been his ability on the basepaths.

Despite limited playing time in the majors, he has accumulated dozens of stolen bases and built a reputation as a disruptive runner when he reaches base.

That type of speed can be particularly valuable over the course of a long season, especially for teams seeking situational bench players who can impact games late.

For Texas, the waiver claim represents a low-risk addition that could provide depth during the season.

If Blanco performs well, then he could carve out a role on the Rangers’ bench or serve as an option when injuries arise.

After losing his roster spot in Kansas City due to the addition of Marte, Blanco now gets a fresh opportunity with the Rangers.

For players in his position, a change of organization can provide a new pathway to playing time.

Texas will evaluate Blanco during the coming weeks to determine how he fits into the club’s roster plans moving forward.
