The Texas Rangers have made a significant move to strengthen their pitching staff, agreeing to acquire left-handed starter MacKenzie Gore in a trade with the Washington Nationals, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Jon Heyman of the New York Post was first to report the trade.
Gore, 26, immediately becomes one of the most intriguing arms in the Rangers’ rotation mix. A former No. 3 overall pick, he has long been viewed as a high-upside starter thanks to his mid-to-upper 90s fastball, sharp breaking pitches, and the ability to miss bats.
While his career has included periods of inconsistency, Gore has shown flashes of frontline potential, particularly during extended stretches with the Nationals.
For Texas, the move reflects a clear intention to add controllable pitching with upside rather than relying solely on short-term veteran solutions. Gore remains under team control for multiple seasons, giving the Rangers both immediate rotation help and long-term stability.

According to MLB insider Robert Murray, the headliner heading to Washington is shortstop Gavin Fien, one of the Rangers’ most highly regarded prospects.
Right-hander Alejandro Rosario is also part of the package, along with first baseman/outfielder Abimelec Ortiz, infielder Devin Fitz-Gerald, and outfielder Yeremy Cabrera, completing the five-player return to the Nationals.
For a Rangers club trying to return to the postseason, the trade represents a calculated bet on talent, development, and upside.
