After an off-season and Spring Training of speculation about what the Texas Rangers' Opening Day roster would look like, we will have to debate no longer.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Texas Rangers revealed their 26-man roster ahead of Thursday’s Opening Day showdown with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The majority of the roster was already pieced together before the official announcement, but it’s now official.
As we already knew, the Rangers' five-man starting rotation will consist of Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, MacKenzie Gore, Jack Leiter, and Kumar Rocker.
The eight relievers to begin the season will be Tyler Alexander, Carter Baumler, Jalen Beeks, Robert Garcia, Jakob Junis, Jacob Latz, Chris Martin, and Cole Winn.
First-year manager Skip Schumaker will have a good variety in his bullpen with Alexander, Beeks, and Latz throwing from the left side, and multiple relievers will have the ability to give the team multiple innings.
On the position player standpoint, the Rangers will carry two catchers as we all suspected, with Kyle Higashioka and Danny Jansen carrying the load behind the plate.
It’ll be interesting to see if either one of them can grasp onto the “1A” role as Texas expects them to split playing time at least in the beginning of the season.
Six infielders will grace the Rangers' roster as Jake Burger, Ezequiel Duran, Josh Jung, Joc Pederson, Corey Seager, and Josh Smith will each factor into the team’s plans this season.
For Smith, 2026 will mark his first season as a regular starter, with him sliding into the second base role after the Rangers moved on from Marcus Semien this offseason.
In the outfield, Texas will carry Evan Carter, Sam Haggerty, Wyatt Langford, Andrew McCutchen, and Brandon Nimmo.
With Nimmo, Carter, and Langford figuring to serve as the outfield starters, we’ll likely see McCutchen get a significant amount of at-bats in the DH role.
Additionally, Haggerty figures to slide in as the team’s main utility player with the ability to play both the outfield and the infield.
To make the necessary moves to field their Opening Day roster, the Rangers also announced several other transactions.
Outfielder Dairon Blanco, who was claimed from the Kansas City Royals, has been designated for assignment.
Both Cody Bradford and Cody Freeman have been placed on the 15 and 10-day Injured List, respectively, and Austin Gomber, Cal Quantrill, Josh Sborz, and Tyler Wade have all been assigned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Veteran outfielder Mark Canha has also agreed to remain in the Rangers' organization after he was informed earlier this week that he would not be on the Opening Day roster.
