Texas Rangers reliever Robert Garcia will also be joining the Mexican team, making his World Baseball Classic debut.

The Texas Rangers will be well represented on Team Mexico when the World Baseball Classic begins next month.

Shortly after outfielder Alejandro Osuna confirmed he would be playing for the Mexican national team, it was revealed that one of his teammates would be joining him.

Rangers reliever Robert Garcia will also be joining the Mexican team, making his World Baseball Classic debut.

In his first season with the Rangers, Garcia pitched to the tune of a 2.95 ERA in 64 innings while converting nine save opportunities.

Garcia also struggled at times to convert saves, but was the Rangers' closer for a solid portion of the season.

Prior to the 2025 season, the Rangers acquired Garcia in a trade with the Washington Nationals in exchange for first baseman Nathaniel Lowe.

Garcia was part of a big bullpen makeover that saw him join the likes of Chris Martin, Hoby Milner, Shawn Armstrong, and Jacob Webb come in and contribute to the fourth best bullpen ERA in all of Major League Baseball last season.

Looking ahead to 2026, just Garcia and Martin will return alongside new faces Tyler Alexander, Alexis Diaz, and Jakob Junis, looking to replicate last season’s success.

Garcia certinally seems likely to have the chance to earn an opportunity to become the closer in first-year manager Skip Schumaker’s system as the team is not looking like they will bring in a defined ninth inning guy.

As for Team Mexico, Garcia will be part of a bullpen that aims to build on its best run yet at the World Baseball Classic.

In 2023, Mexico made it all the way to the semi-finals, losing to eventual champion Japan on the last pitch of the game.

Notably, Mexico pulled off a stunning upset against Team USA in the group stage and beat Puerto Rico in a thrilling quarterfinal.

Garcia will be managed by former Rangers infielder Benji Gill, who is back behind the bench for Mexico.

Gill played for Texas in 1993 and again from 1995-1997, hitting .215 with 14 home runs and 80 RBI.

Mexico will play in Pool B of the World Baseball Classic against Great Britain, Brazil, the United States, and Italy.

Each of those games will take place in Houston at Daikin Park, home of the Rangers' American League West rival Houston Astros.

Mexico’s first game of the tournament will be on March 6th at noon against Great Britain on FS1.
