From the second the Texas Rangers drafted Wyatt Langford with the fourth pick of the 2023 MLB draft, the baseball world knew he had the potential to be special.
After playing just 44 minor-league games in 2023, Langford was placed on the Opening Day roster for the then-defending World Series champion Rangers to begin the 2024 season.
Just months earlier, Langford was starring at the University of Florida, but despite that, the moment was never too big for him as he finished a solid rookie season, hitting .253 with 16 home runs, 74 RBI, and beating out now back-to-back AL MVP Aaron Judge for the AL September player of the month award.
Langford followed up a successful rookie campaign with another solid season in 2025, hitting .241 with 22 home runs and 62 RBI while swiping 22 bags.
With two solid seasons in a row and a strong expectation of what he is going to do in 2026, Langford has quickly risen to become the Rangers' second-best position player behind superstar shortstop Corey Seager.
In his first year under new manager Skip Schumaker, the sky is the limit for what Langford can accomplish, and many are projecting him as a breakout 30/30 candidate.
With a lack of star power outside of Seager in the Rangers' lineup, a breakout from Langford would no doubt be massive in helping the Texas offense return to glory and help get the club back to the postseason for the first time since 2023.
There’s no doubt that Langford has the potential to be one of the best hitters in all of baseball, but if he can get anywhere close to that a little earlier than expected, it would be huge for the Rangers from an organizational standpoint.
It’ll also be interesting to see where Langford spends the majority of his time defensively in 2026.
Ever since he broke onto the big-league scene, Langford has spent the majority of his time in left field, but last year, after the departure of Leody Taveras, we saw him get more opportunities in center and certainly make the most of them.
There’s no doubt that Langford has the opportunity to be an everyday center fielder if that’s the route that Schumaker so chooses for him.
No matter what, Langford will be key to whatever success the Rangers want to have in 2026, and he will be a must-see player across all of Major League Baseball.
