What Does 2026 Look Like For Justin Foscue? cover image

Flash forward to 2026, and Foscue seems to be pretty far back in line when it comes to infield opportunities.

In 2020, the Rangers surprised many by selecting Justin Foscue with the 14th overall pick in the draft.

The former Mississippi State Bulldog had a strong college career and was high on the Rangers' draft board when many teams did not view him as such.

Foscue has played across just about every level in the minor leagues since being drafted and has put up pretty solid numbers at almost every spot.

Last season with AAA Round Rock, Foscue played in 103 games and hit .261 with 19 home runs and 61 RBI.

However, despite a limited number of opportunities, his minor league success has not translated to the big league level.

Thus far in 51 Major League at-bats, Foscue has managed just three hits and has knocked in just three runs.

Flash forward to 2026, and Foscue seems to be pretty far back in line when it comes to infield opportunities.

Even with the Rangers moving on from longtime second baseman Marcus Semien, the playing time still seems murky for Foscue.

Josh Smith seems like he will get the bulk of the work at second base to begin the season, but a possible platoon would seemingly include Cody Freeman, Ezequel Duran, or Sam Haggerty and not Foscue.

With that being said, it seems like Foscue’s chances to make the team out of camp are almost nonexistent.

Foscue certainly would have the chance to play every day at AAA Round Rock if the Rangers so choose to hold onto him for another year.

At the same time, Foscue is 26 years old, and you have to wonder how much longer the Rangers will want to hold onto him.

Which direction the Rangers decide to go as far as infield roster spots coming out of camp will no doubt be interesting.

Looking to fill the hole left by Marcus Semien, you’d have to assume that Smith will be the bulk of that answer, but after that is a question mark.

Could the Rangers choose to go with Harrgerty due to his veteran status, giving him more of an ability to sit on the bench more easily?

Or, could Texas go with Freeman, thinking they are willing to find places for him to play in the lineup consistently?

Then you have to think about how Duran factors into the equation after not having a defined role the last few seasons.

Whichever option the Rangers choose will have an impact on where Foscue starts his 2026 season.
