The Rays dropped another series Sunday, falling 4-1 to the Marlins despite a strong bounce-back start from Griffin Jax. Tampa Bay’s offense continued to struggle for consistency, while bullpen issues and injuries remain concerns as the club heads home after losing six of its last eight games.

It's another series loss for the Tampa Bay Rays.

The team fell to the Miami Marlins in the rubber match on Sunday, 4-1, and lost the citrus series at LoanDepot Park.

The bats couldn't get to the Marlins pitching in time the second time this weekend. Here is what you need to know from the contest.

Solid Bounce Back from Jax, but Bullpen Issues Ruin it.

After a rough start last time out against the Detroit Tigers, Griffin Jax bounced back nicely in his start on Sunday. The right-hander went five shutout innings, only allowing three hits and striking out four, keeping the Rays in the game all the way to the back half of the contest.

His great start was overshadowed, however, by Garrett Cleavinger and Steven Matz, who came out of the bullpen for the first time this season. Cleavinger gave up two earned runs in his one inning of work, receiving the loss and blown save against the Marlins. Matz also struggled, giving up a run in the seventh inning during his work on the mound. He escaped without recording a strikeout.

Rays Offense Can't Find Consistency

For the second game in the series, the Rays at the plate struggled to find any consistency. The team hardly had any opportunities, recording six hits on the day and striking out ten times.

Tampa Bay didn't have an answer for Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara, who went seven strong innings, striking out seven and only allowing one run on five hits. The Rays were 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

Yandy Diaz continues to be one of the only bright spots on the roster, picking up another RBI and moving his batting average to .325 and a .925 OPS on the season.

Too Many Things Not Going Right?

It's a weird time for the Rays right now, and many things just aren't going right. The team finally picked up their first stolen base of the month after struggling to get a runner in scoring position to begin June.

Cedric Mullins continues to be close and was robbed of a home run, the second time this series that's occurred. If the Marlins' outfield were about five feet shorter, Mullins would have had three home runs in the series.

And of course, the bumps and bruises keep getting bigger for the Rays. Chandler Simpson is dealing with injuries that kept him out of most of this series, and the back end of the bullpen continues to have issues with reliable arms to come into the game.

It's a long season, 162 games to be exact, and sometimes these stretches just happen. Also, sometimes all you need is a little bit of luck to get out of them. That's what the Rays need as they look to figure things out when they return home on Monday.

The Rays will head back to Tropicana Field on Monday to begin a short 3-game homestand, hosting the Boston Red Sox. Tampa Bay will start left-handed reliever Ian Seymour (3-0, 5.23 ERA) to begin the game. He will go against Connelly Early (5-3, 3.26 ERA), another lefty as well, for Boston. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST.
