Rays Expected to add Award-Winning Manager to Staff cover image

The Tampa Bay Rays need to get back to their winning ways and are adding the right person to help with the process.

The Tampa Bay Rays are expected to add a new addition to their staff, and it is someone who brings knowledge and pedigree.

The Rays are set to hire Brandon Hyde, the former Baltimore Orioles manager and American League Manager of the Year award winner, in a senior advisory role of baseball operations. According to the Tampa Bay Times, the announcement is not expected to be made official until next week.

Hyde was named the AL Manager of the Year in 2023 after leading the club to 101 wins. The following season, Hyde posted 91 wins in 2024 before a turbulent start to the 2025 season led to his firing.

Through parts of seven seasons as Baltimore’s manager, Hyde posted three winning campaigns. Now, he joins the Rays' front office with experience as not only a manager, but a minor-league field coordinator and director of player development, both of which were with the Chicago Cubs.

For Tampa Bay, who have struggled through consecutive seasons, the addition of Hyde will provide the club with someone who knows how to get the best out of a team. He navigated Baltimore through its tumultuous rebuild and turned the Orioles into a powerhouse in the American League East. He was also the first base coach for the Chicago Cubs in their 2016 championship season under manager Joe Maddon, who managed the Rays from 2006-2014.
