A merger agreement announced Sept. 30 between RYVYL and Roundtable accelerates a significant investment in independent journalism, financially supporting the coverage as well as encouraging a community conversation around the Tampa Bay Rays and more than 100 other professional sports teams and university athletic programs.
First, a word on the players.
RYVYL is a leading innovator of payment transaction solutions, empowering a new way to conduct business-to-business, consumer-to-business, and peer-to-peer payment transactions around the globe.
Roundtable (RTB Digital, Inc.) is a Web3 digital media SaaS technology company, providing publishing and monetization for professional media brands, journalists and communities.
"Roundtable’s brand, technology and SaaS network will combine with RYVYL’s digital payment infrastructure, to accelerate revenue and distribution growth for Roundtable’s premium media clients, such as Yahoo, TheStreet and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) European Football Club," as first reported by The Street.
The transaction is expected to close by year end 2025, subject to RYVYL stockholders’ approval and other customary conditions.
Roundtable founder James Heckman will be the CEO of the new combined company. Heckman previously founded and led Maven (NYSE: AREN), which grew into a nine-figure, NYSE public company providing publishing, distribution and monetization for 300 brands, including Sports Illustrated, Maxim, History.com, and TheStreet, and reaching more than 150 million users monthly.
On Sept. 5, Heckman announced a $30 million commitment to support the digital platform for “RoundtableSports.”
More than 150 Roundtable journalists now are positioned globally to report on Major League Baseball, the National Football League and National Hockey League, women and men's professional basketball, plus European soccer and many major universities.
Of equal importance is Roundtable's commitment to build communities of fans, who will be encouraged to publish their insights and original content about their favorite teams.
