With the MLB Trade Deadline days away, the Rays Roundtable debates Tampa Bay's biggest needs and predicts the club's biggest move. Could Eric Neander land Hunter Goodman or even pull off a blockbuster for Tarik Skubal before August 3?

It's the final few days for the Tampa Bay Rays to make big-time changes to their roster for the rest of the season.

With the August 3rd MLB Trade Deadline quickly approaching, Eric Neander and the Rays front office have plenty of work to do if they plan on making a deep postseason run.

On this week's Rays Roundtable, we discuss some of the biggest talking points regarding the MLB Trade Deadline and what the Rays must accomplish to win the division and potentially their first World Series.

Final Weekend before the Trade Deadline. How satisfied do you think the Rays are with where they sit atop the standings?

Michael Brauner:  Hopefully not satisfied enough. If this team wants to win the American League pennant — something they have a real shot at — they need to make a big splash.

Christian Rauh: I think 2023 is a good indicator of them not being satisfied. They know how quickly a season can go sour on you if you don't properly prep. They shouldn't make that same mistake again.

With the improvement in play from both Chandler Simpson and Cedric Mullins, do you see the Rays adding outfield depth?

MB: Depth, potentially. A major difference-making bat in the outfield? Probably not at this point. If the right name is out there, perhaps things could change, but I expect more focus on pitching than anything.

CR: Chandler Simpson has truly changed my way of thinking here. Mullins, regardless of his performance the rest of the way, isn't a long-term solution, but Simpson is. They won't go out of their way to acquire more help in the outfield, but if one falls into their lap in a package for another player, I don't think they would be upset about it.

PLANT YOUR FLAG. Predict the Rays biggest splash before the deadline.

MB:  It seems like Tarik Skubal is going to be traded. Would anyone be surprised if it's the Dodgers? No. But perhaps Tampa Bay comes out of the woodwork and shocks the world here. They have the prospects to get it done, so let's go with Skubal.

CR: I'm going with Hunter Goodman. I think the asking price on him goes down slightly, and with two other teams in the division fighting for his services as well, the Rays could jump on him. He brings years of control to a position that isn't known for bringing a ton of power to the plate in this new era of baseball. It would be a huge addition.
