The Rays face growing competition for Giants infielder Luis Arraez as the Yankees and Red Sox also pursue the former batting champion. With the MLB Trade Deadline approaching, Tampa Bay may need to act quickly to land one of its top trade targets.
The Tampa Bay Rays have some more competition to pick up one of the most realistic trade acquisitions this week.
With the MLB Trade Deadline quickly approaching, the need to acquire a middle infielder is paramount to help the Rays make a deep postseason run. And Luis Arraez of the San Francisco Giants makes the most sense.
However, earlier this weekend, it was reported that a few other teams are expressing interest in Arraez and potentially making a deal with the Giants before the August 3rd deadline strikes.
The former batting champ is currently only on a one-year deal with the struggling Giants, so moving him for some prospects makes sense. And the best part is it likely wouldn't cost some of the top players in the farm system, since the transaction is only a half-season rental.
San Francisco has already moved on from players on their roster after underachieving in a big way in 2026. The team has already moved on from their main catcher, Patrick Bailey, earlier this season for future draft compensation. Moving on from an expiring contract in Arraez seems like a sure thing.
But they will have to make an impressive offer, as two other teams in the Rays division are looking to do the same thing. According to Baseball reporter Francys Romero, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are also showing strong interest in acquiring the second baseman.
Heading into Saturday, Arraez has a .328 batting average and has 136 hits on the season. He only has 4 home runs on the season, and power won't be his strong suit, but being a tablesetter for the rest of the Rays batting order could be a dream come true for Kevin Cash heading into the final stage of summer.
Both the Yankees and Red Sox are fighting to get back into the AL East division race, as well as find themselves as one of the top wildcard teams. The Rays must be aggressive to keep the rest of the American League at bay.
The MLB Trade Deadline is Monday at 6 pm EST.
