The Tampa Bay Rays future is incredibly bright.

And it was on full display to kick off All-Star weekend in the MLB All-Star Futures Game.

The American League took down the National League 6-1 in a game that spotlights the future stars of the major leagues. One of Tampa Bay's top prospects led the way, earning the MVP award for the contest.

Flewelling has risen quickly through the prospect rankings since the spring, finding himself not only on MLB's top 100 prospects but now rated as the second-best prospect inside Tampa Bay's organization.

If you've been paying attention to the Rays' minor league system this year, Flewelling hitting a home run is not a surprise. It also wouldn't be a surprise if we see him making a jump from high A bowling green to Double-A Montgomery in the second half of the season.

So far this season, across 272 at-bats, Flewelling has 16 home runs, 47 RBIs, and a 0.890 OPS on the year. He has taken a huge step forward in his development since being drafted as a 17-year-old in the third round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Rays top prospect Theo Gillen also participated in the game on Sunday. Between the two players, they combined for three RBIs in the seven-inning game.

Gillen has been praised this season for taking a huge step forward in his defensive skills, including a stronger, more accurate arm and consistent playing time in center field before being promoted to Double-A Montgomery.

Across all levels in the minor leagues this season, Gillen has 12 home runs, 55 RBIs, and a 0.931 OPS, certainly showing the potential as one of the top prospects in all of baseball.

Both players are still a few levels away from the Big League Club but should be competing for a spot as early as next year's spring training to make an impact on the Rays roster.
