With the Milwaukee Brewers claiming their first World Series title in franchise history last week, Major League Baseball is officially on to the offseason. However, down in Arizona, eight Boston Red Sox prospects are still playing games in the Arizona Fall League, which just wrapped up week four of regular-season action.
It was a solid week for the Mesa Solar Sox and the Red Sox prospects as they went 3-2 in five games, with rain canceling Friday's entire slate of action. Still, Mesa sits in fifth place out of six teams with a 9-11 record.
Here’s what you need to know about how the Red Sox prospects performed at the plate over the last week:
Antonio Anderson
The former third-round pick has been Boston's best performer in the fall, building off a strong regular season in High-A Greenville. Anderson's torrid stretch continued into week four of play, where he put together what may have been his best stretch of games. The 21-year-old appeared in four of Mesa's five games, playing first base, third base, and serving as the team's designated hitter. In those four games, Anderson went 6-for-18 with one home run, four RBI, and six runs scored, while walking and striking out four times each.
In 15 games played, Anderson is hitting .333/.472/.579/1.051 with three doubles, three home runs, and one triple, driving in 17. Anderson ranks in the top 10 among all qualified AFL hitters in on-base percentage and OPS, while sitting just outside the top 10 in batting average and slugging percentage.
Mason White
Things haven't gone as well for the highest-rated prospect the Red Sox sent to Arizona, 2025 fourth-round pick, infielder Mason White. However, the 23-year-old posted what was perhaps his best week of the fall season, going 3-for-11 with a triple and two RBI. However, White's struggles with the strikeout persisted, as he struck out four times in 11 at-bats, while walking only once.
In 14 games for Mesa, Boston's No. 27 prospect is hitting just .163/.311/.264/.576 with one triple, one home run, and five RBI. White has struggled mightily with strikeouts, punching out in 32.2 percent of his plate appearances.
Nazzan Zanetello
Like White, it's been rough sledding for the 2023 second-round pick. Zanetello appeared in three of Mesa's five games, notably making an appearance in center field. However, his struggles at the plate continued: he went just 1-for-10 with one triple, three RBI, and two runs scored.
In 14 games, the 21-year-old is hitting .156/.356/.311/.667 with two triples, one home run and seven RBI. While he hasn't gotten things going at the plate just yet, a 23.7 percent walk rate is an encouraging sign.
Mesa will be back in action on Monday night, kicking off the fifth week of regular-season play.
