The 38-year-old All-Star tied a Red Sox legend and Hall of Famer on the All-Time Saves list on Wednesday afternoon.

BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox kept on rolling in game one of Wednesday afternoon's day-night doubleheader, defeating the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 and tying the franchise record of 15 straight wins. But it wasn't just the Red Sox making history, as their All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman logged his 23rd save of the season, continuing to climb the all-time saves leaderboard in the process.

Chapman entered the game with Boston leading 6-3 in the top of the ninth inning and surrendered a leadoff single to Baltimore second baseman Jackson Holliday. The former top overall pick was quickly erased though as the 38-year-old flamethrower got Orioles catcher Chadwick Tromp to chase a 98-mph fastball well above the zone, chopping it to shortstop Tsung-Che Cheng, who started the 6-4-3 double play for the first two outs of the inning.

Baltimore had one more batter reach base as left fielder Taylor Ward worked a five-pitch walk against the nine-time All-Star. With Ward on first and two away, Orioles big-ticket free agent signing Pete Alonso stepped to the plate for one last gasp. However, Chapman made quick work of the five-time All-Star, getting him to ground out to Cheng, locking down the 390th save of his 17-year career.

Continuing to make a case for Cooperstown

With the save, Chapman tied Red Sox legend and Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley for the ninth most saves in baseball history. To make things a little more special for both Chapman and Eckersley, the Hall of Famer was in the house to see Chapman match his feat.

The milestone marks the third that Chapman has hit during the 2026 season. In the Red Sox' May 18 win over the Kansas City Royals, the 38-year-old passed former Minnesota Twins closer Joe Nathan for the 10th most saves of all-time.

He again made history in Boston's Fourth of July victory in Los Angeles, striking out Angels infielder Denzer Guzman for the 1,364th strikeout of his career, passing Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm for the most strikeouts by a reliever in major league history.

Chapman now turns his attention to Hall of Fame left-hander Billy Wagner, who sits alone in eighth place with 422 career saves.

The Red Sox will look to make it a franchise-record 16-straight wins in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles. Eduardo Rivera (0-0, 2.89 ERA) will get the start for Boston opposite Kyle Bradish (6-9, 3.61 ERA) for Baltimore. First pitch from Fenway set for 7:10 p.m. ET.
