Sam Kennedy joined the 'Monster Territory' podcast on Tuesday to talk about the offseason for the Red Sox as the general manager's meetings go on.

Boston Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy was a guest on the most recent edition of 'Monster Territory,' and said that the front office has a competitive fire to play meaningful games in October, and he also said there's a sense of urgency to do so.

He also discussed the timeline of when fans can expect to see real movement in the offseason market, and while he wasn't exactly sure what would happen, he did say that early signings are good for every one from fans to players, especially as players start to report earlier and earlier to spring training.

    It's good to hear

While Kennedy didn't come out with any swift guarantees about what the Red Sox will do this offseason, or about how much money they will spend, it's always nice to get even a little bit of affirmation that your front office decision makers are invested in the success of the organization.

And for a Red Sox fan base that has felt the organization was too inactive over the last several years, it's a sign that perhaps that won't be the case this offseason. The Red Sox did have a busy offseason last year, acquiring Garrett Crochet, Aroldis Chapman, Justin Wilson and Alex Bregman. That's a hard offseason to top, but fans will be hoping for a similar performance this winter.

Again, Kennedy's comments were nothing groundbreaking, but even just hearing there is a "competitive fire" in the front office is good talk for mid-November.

What are the goals this offseason?

Kennedy spoke specifically about the hole at third base, which was caused by the trade of Rafael Devers and the opt-out of Alex Bregman. The Red Sox clearly need to find a third baseman, and bringing back Bregman is plan 1A. They have also been linked to a veteran like Eugenio Suarez, who hit 49 home runs in 2025 for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners.

Beyond third base, the Red Sox have mentioned trying to get another front-line starting pitcher, and they've been connected on the trade market to Joe Ryan (Minnesota Twins) and Freddy Peralta (Milwaukee Brewers).

While Triston Casas is still under contract at first base, the team has also been linked to Pete Alonso, further signifying the desire to get a middle-of-the-order presence.

    Outlook looking forward

With a full year of Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer, the Red Sox project to be one of the top teams in the American League next year, especially if they can accomplish most or all of their offseason shopping list.

Boston finished third in the American League East and lost to the New York Yankees in the wild card round of the playoffs. They haven't won the World Series since winning 108 games in 2018.
