Boston's Green Monster City Connect jerseys were a major hit among fans

The Boston Red Sox are coming off the first playoff berth since 2021, and there's a lot of hope for the future of the team and the potential for another pennant in the near future.

It was the latest playoff season in a long history of them for the Red Sox. And for a large portion of the season, Boston hit the field at Fenway Park donning uniforms that bore a resemblance to one of the most iconic landmarks in baseball.

This year, the Red Sox introduced secondary City Connect uniforms meant to resemble the Green Monster — the nickname for the 37-foot-tall left field wall at Fenway.

Boston made the "Fenway Greens" the unofficial Friday night home uniforms as the season progressed.

The Red Sox debuted the uniforms on May 16 in the first of a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves and they became an instant hit among fans.

According to a story from Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald, the "Fenway Greens" became the highest-selling City Connect jersey in MLB history, according to Boston's chief marketing and partnerships officer Troup Parkinson.

“It was amazing hearing the fan reaction because that’s when you know you’ve hit on something that people like as much as you do,” Parkinson said in the story. “We all internally loved it but it’s hard to be our own focus group.”

Over the course of the season, the Red Sox went 6-5 in the Fenway Greens, according to Cerullo's story. All six of those wins were walk-off victories.

Boston clinched its playoff berth this year while wearing the Fenway Greens. Outfielder Cedanne Rafaela hit an RBI triple in a 4-3 win against the Detroit Tigers on Sept. 26.

The City Connect jerseys were first introduced in 2021 with the intention of honoring the respective club's city and community. The Red Sox have a second City Connect jersey, a blue-and-yellow uniform, meant to pay homage to the Boston Marathon.

The blue and yellow jerseys are expected to return in 2026, according to Cerullo's story.
