Kutter Crawford hasn't pitched since the 2024 season.

After losing starting pitcher Sonny Gray to the 15-day injured list on Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox got another injury update on another pitcher.

Kutter Crawford, who hasn't pitched in the big leagues since the 2024 season because of a multitude of injuries, was pulled from a recent rehab assignment because of arm discomfort.

On Tuesday, he said he felt tightness in his throwing elbow. He has inflammation in his flexor tendon and is shut down for now, but he says things are trending positively.

That may be true, but it's another setback for Crawford, which is frustrating for both him and the Red Sox. In addition to Gray and Crawford, Johan Oviedo is also on the injured list, and Patrick Sandoval also continues to be slowed in his return from Tommy John surgery.

About Crawford

Crawford, 30, is a four-year veteran of the Sox who has gone 18-31 lifetime with a 4.36 ERA, but he's been more valuable than his numbers would indicate.

He made 23 starts in 2023 and led the majors in starts (33) in 2024. He also tossed 183.2 innings for the 2024 Red Sox, showing the ability to go deep into games and churn innings for a rotation.

If the team can get him healthy, he can be valuable in various capacities, but that's been a big "if" for a while now.

Crawford was a 16th-round draft pick of the Red Sox in 2017 out of the Florida junior college ranks.
