Ahead of Thursday afternoon’s series finale against the Chicago White Sox, the Boston Red Sox announced they’ve placed All-Star starting pitcher Ranger Suárez on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain.  

The move to place the 30-year-old Suarez on the injured list comes just four days after he was removed from Sunday night’s start in Los Angeles in the third inning after appearing to tweak something in his groin when lunging for a weakly hit chopper off the bat of Angels right fielder Jo Adell. Suarez told reporters after the game that he felt a pinch when delivering the pitch rather than when attempting to field the ball. 

After Monday’s off day, Suarez was spotted throwing in the outfield at Rate Field ahead of Tuesday’s series opener with the White Sox, telling reporters he would attempt a bullpen session before making a determination on his next scheduled start, Saturday in New York. 

According to Sean McAdam of MassLive.com, Suarez opted not to throw the bullpen on Thursday ahead of the series finale on the South Side, instead landing on the injured list. 

As a result of his injury, Suarez will miss Tuesday’s All-Star game in Philadelphia, the place where he spent the first eight years of his career. 

The Red Sox recalled infielder Brett Harris to take Suarez's spot on the active roster. 

The Red Sox acquired Harris from the Athletics on July 1 in exchange for pitching prospect Ben Hansen. The 28-year-old has appeared in five games for Triple-A Worcester since being acquired, going 3-for-18 with one home run and six RBI. 

Prior to joining the Red Sox organization, Harris spent the majority of the 2026 season with the A’s Triple-A affiliate, Las Vegas, where he hit .336/.441/.537/.978 with five home runs and 34 RBI, while ranking in the 93rd percentile in hard-hit rate. He has appeared in five games at the major league level, going 0-for-4 with one walk. 

Defensively, Harris has played primarily third base, posting five defensive runs saved in 183 innings at the position in 2025. He has also spent time at first and second base in the majors. 

The 28-year-old infielder has appeared in parts of three seasons for the A’s with little major league success. In 73 games, Harris is hitting just .194/.307/.289/.595 with only three home runs and 17 RBI. 

The Red Sox will look to complete a three-game sweep of the White Sox and make it a season-high six-game winning streak on Thursday afternoon. Patrick Sandoval will make his long-awaited Red Sox debut opposite left-hander Anthony Kay (6-3, 4.29 ERA) for the White Sox. First pitch from Rate Field set for 2:40 p.m. ET.
