The Red Sox are still looking to add lefty arms behind Aroldis Chapman.

The Boston Red Sox have had an eventful offseason to this point.

The Red Sox have added to their starting rotation by acquiring right-handers Sonny Gray (from the St. Louis Cardinals) and Johan Oviedo from the Pittsburgh Pirtates.

Boston also added to its infield by bringing in first baseman/catcher Willson Contreras in a second deal with the Cardinals.

The Red Sox have been rumored to be in the mix for several notable free agents, including corner infielder Kazuma Okamoto, third baseman Alex Bregman and shortstop Bo Bichette. According to a recent article from Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, Boston is also in the market for more bullpen help.

The article comes via a story from Tim Healy of the Boston Globe.

Healy highlighted the lack of reliable depth in front of the back-end of the Red Sox's bullpen, which included defending American League Reliever of the Year Aroldis Chapman, Greg Weissert and Garrett Whitlock.

The article says that "at least one, if not two" additions could be on the table for Boston and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow.

Deeds' story goes on to highlight the inconsistencies from Jordan Hicks (8.20 ERA with the Red Sox) and Jovani Moran (6.75 ERA in two appearances) as reasons for needing more relievers.

Boston currently doesn't have many established left-handed reliever options behind Chapman and the options in the open market are thinning.

Notable southpaws Gregory Soto, Sean Newcomb and Hoby Milner have all signed deals with clubs this offseason. There are still options such as Taylor Rogers, Danny Coulombe and Andrew Chafin available in free agency.

It's been speculated the Red Sox could have a third trade percolating with St. Louis.

Boston has reported to have interest in 2025 All-Star second baseman Brendan Donovan. If the Red Sox are unable to acquire Donovan or are able to add more players to the deal, Cardinals left-handed reliever JoJo Romero could be a pivot.

The Red Sox are coming off their first playoff appearance since 2021 and are trying to stay competitive in the gauntlet that is the American League East.

Boston's division rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays, are coming off an American League pennant and remain in the mix for the most-coveted free agents on the open market. The Baltimore Orioles, who missed the playoffs, have added free agent first baseman Pete Alonso and closer Ryan Helsley via free agency and acquired outfielder Taylor Ward in a trade.
