According to SoxProspects.com's Andrew Parker, the Boston Red Sox are set to promote their 2025 13th-round pick, third baseman Jack Winnay, to Double-A Portland after a strong showing with High-A Greenville. 

The 23-year-old third baseman grew up in Newton, Mass., where he attended Belmont Hill High School before heading to Wake Forest University. He spent three seasons in Winston-Salem, hitting .293/.406/.593/.999 with 35 home runs and 124 RBIs. 

After being selected by the Red Sox Winnay signed for $150,000 and reported to Single-A Salem for his first taste of professional action. In 15 games for Salem, Winnay hit .321/.323/.343/.827 with one home run and 11 RBIs. 

The 15 games in Salem were evidently enough for the Red Sox as they assigned Winnay to High-A Greenville to start the 2026 season, where his strong start put him on the radar. In 56 games in Greenville, the 23-year-old impressed, hitting .255/.434/.457/.891 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs. 

"Jack has had a really good season, really good plate discipline, more walks than strikeouts, and he's impacted the baseball," Red Sox Senior Director of Player Development Brian Abraham told WEEI's Rob Bradford on June 14. "In terms of areas at the plate that we feel sustain as they move up to the upper levels, he's been able to do that, hit the ball, swinging at strikes... he's had a really, really solid first season, which has been great," he continued. 

After entering the season unranked in SoxProspects' organizational top 60, Winnay jumped to No. 40 in the June update. According to SoxProspects he is a "physical right-handed hitter with a well-rounded offensive profile. Needs to show he can handle advanced pitching, but showed an advanced approach and solid contact skills in college." 

Winnay's emergence as a legitimate prospect is welcome news for a Boston farm system widely regarded as being very pitcher-heavy. 

After walking five in only 2.2 innings of work in what was arguably the worst start of his professional career on June 9, Red Sox top pitching prospect Anthony Eyanson bounced back nicely. The 21-year-old allowed three hits, striking out nine in four shutout innings in Double-A Portland's 6-4 loss to the Somerset Patriots on Sunday afternoon. 

Boston's top prospect, Franklin Arias, continued his dominant season, launching his 14th home run of the season as part of a 3-for-5 day at the plate for Portland on Sunday afternoon. The 21-year-old is knocking down the door of Triple-A, now hitting .315/.395/.579/.974 in 57 games for the Sea Dogs. He has emerged as one of the top prospects not only in the Red Sox system but in all of baseball in 2026. 

2025 first-round pick Kyson Witherspoon is starting to put things together after a rough start to the season. The 21-year-old is coming off the best start of his young career on Friday afternoon, allowing two earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out a career high eight over five innings of work. In his last five starts, the Oklahoma product has allowed just eight earned runs on 18 hits in 24.2 innings pitched for High-A Greenville. 

Meanwhile, back in Boston, the Red Sox were unable to complete the three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners, falling 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. They'll continue on their six-game West Coast trip on Monday afternoon in Denver when they kick off a three-game set with the Colorado Rockies. Rookie lefty Jake Bennett (1-3, 4.79 ERA) will get the start for Boston opposite righty Ryan Feltner (2-2, 5.05 ERA) for Colorado. First pitch from Coors Field set for 8:40 p.m. ET.
