It was a unanimous victory for Nick Kurtz, with Roman Anthony finishing third.

Boston Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony was denied the American League Rookie of the Year Award on Monday night, finishing behind Nick Kurtz and Jacob Wilson, both of the Athletics.

The victory was unanimous for Kurtz, who received all 30 first-place votes. Anthony received three second-place votes and 15 third-place votes.

Noah Cameron of the Kansas City Royals and Colson Montgomery of the Chicago White Sox finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

    About Kurtz

One of the best sluggers in baseball at just the age of 22, Kurtz hit a whopping 36 home runs in only 117 games. He also had 86 RBIs, a .290 batting average and a .383 on-base percentage.

He looks like he'll be one of the best first basemen in the league for years to come and he could eventually end up in the MVP discussions. He had a 1.002 OPS and a 173 OPS+. He also had a four home run game against the Houston Astros.

    About Wilson

The complete opposite of Kurtz, Wilson is a contact-driven hitter. The 23-year-old is a former first-round pick (2023) who made his debut in 2024. He played in 125 games this season, making the All-Star Game for the American League, even serving as the starter. He hit .311 with 13 homers, 63 RBIs and a .355 on-base percentage. He stole five bases and will pair with Kurtz to make one of the best young duos in the American League next season.

    About Anthony

The No. 1 prospect in the sport at the time of his promotion in June, Anthony hit .292 across 71 games. He had eight home runs, 32 RBIs and a .292 batting average. Very disciplined at the plate, he had a .396 on-base percentage, but unfortunately missed the last few weeks of the regular season and the Red Sox playoff run because of an oblique strain.

He figures to start in 2026, but the question is who will be starting around him. The Red Sox have been linked to possible trades involving both Wilyer Abreu and Jarren Duran. Masataka Yoshida's future with the organization is also murky.

    Up next

The baseball world will convene in Las Vegas for the general managers meetings from Nov. 11-13. The winter meetings will take place in Orlando from Dec. 7-10. It is at that time that we could see some big moves be made. The Red Sox acquired Garrett Crochet in that time period last year.
