It has been a whirlwind week for Red Sox 2025 third-round pick Anthony Eyanson, capped off by his Double-A debut on Sunday afternoon.

It has been an eventful week for the Boston Red Sox' third-ranked prospect, Anthony Eyanson, who started the week in High-A Greenville and was not ranked in Baseball America's Top 100 prospects list, and ended it in Double-A Portland and was ranked in the top 50. Eyanson's big week was capped off on Sunday afternoon when he made his Double-A debut.

It has been a meteoric rise for Boston's 2025 third-round pick out of Louisiana State University. Eyanson was initially seen as a high-floor, low-ceiling selection by the Red Sox, but an uptick in velocity, paired with incredible performances in High-A, has led to the 21-year-old righty's stock skyrocketing. After entering the season not ranked in the top 100, Eyanson jumped all the way into the top 50 in Baseball America's latest Top 100 rankings.

In the first five starts of his professional career, Eyanson dominated High-A, allowing only one run on seven hits, striking 34 batters to only three walks. His 47.6% strikeout rate was the highest at the level by a wide margin.

Eyanson's dominating start to his career led to a quick decision from the Boston front office to promote their fastest-rising prospect to Double-A after just five starts in Greenville.

To put into perspective just how quickly Eyanson was promoted: fellow Red Sox prospect Payton Tolle, who began the 2025 season in Greenville and ended the year in Boston, didn't see his promotion to Portland until June 22, after 11 appearances in High-A

Eyanson was slated to make his Double-A debut on Saturday until Portland, like the Red Sox, saw their game rained out due to the storms sweeping across the New England area, pushing his start back to Sunday.

Eyanson kicked off his Sea Dogs career with a perfect 1-2-3 first inning of work with two strikeouts, including one of Toronto Blue Jays' 2023 first-round pick Arjun Nimmala. After retiring the first two batters of the second inning, Eyanson would do something that he hadn't done since the third inning of his professional debut: allow a run, a solo shot off the bat of Blue Jays' No. 12 prospect Victor Arias, ending a 19.2 inning scoreless streak.

Overall, Eyanson impressed in his Double-A debut, surrendering just the one run on three hits, striking out four and walking one across four innings of work in Portland's 11-4 win over New Hampshire.

In other Red Sox prospect news

Red Sox top position player prospect, Franklin Arias, stayed hot in Sunday's Sea Dogs win, going 4-5 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored. Arias, along with Eyanson, was one of Baseball America's biggest risers in the latest edition of the Top 100 prospects.

Meanwhile, back in Boston, the Red Sox fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Sunday afternoon's series finale at Fenway Park. They will be off on Monday, before welcoming the Philadelphia Phillies to Fenway for a three-game series that gets underway on Tuesday night.
