The Boston Red Sox defeated the Miami Marlins 7-3 in extra innings on Tuesday night to clinch their third consecutive series win. The Boston offense was propelled by utility man Mickey Gasper, who continued his hot streak, launching two go-ahead home runs in the victory, joining one of the greatest players in Major League Baseball history in the process. 

The 30-year-old utility man was recalled from Worcester on Aug. 16 when the team placed hot-hitting designated hitter Masataka Yoshida on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, which could keep him out for the remainder of the season. 

In his last 23 games in Worcester, Gasper was hitting .393/.476/.631/1.107 with 15 RBI, and the promotion back to the big leagues didn't stop the hot streak, as the veteran is amidst the best streak of his major league career. Over his last seven games, Gasper is hitting .563/.708/1.500/2.208 with four home runs and 10 RBI. As noted by Justin Havens from the 'Baseball Is Dead' Podcast, Gasper's OPS of 2.208 is the second-highest mark for a Red Sox hitter over a seven-game stretch since Hall of Famer Ted Williams. Overall, Gasper is hitting .476/.621/1.333/1.954 with five home runs in eight games since being recalled.

It's been a long journey to major league success for Gasper, who has spent parts of three seasons with both the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. Gasper was promoted to Boston for his major league debut in August 2024, going hitless in 23 plate appearances before being flipped to Minnesota for left-handed reliever Jovani Moran. In 45 games for the Twins, Gasper struggled to a line of .158/.257/.232/.488 before being designated for assignment in the offseason, signing a minor league deal to return to Boston.

The 30-year-old initially provided a spark upon his first call-up of 2026, hitting .344/.364/.406/.770 in his first 10 games after being recalled on May 10. However, he hit only .200/.282/.267/.549 in his next 28 games before being demoted to Triple-A.

Thanks to his latest hot streak, Gasper is now hitting .281/.367/.477/.844 in 42 games at the big league level. 

The Red Sox will look to make it six straight victories and a sweep of the Marlins in Wednesday night's series finale from Loan Depot Park. Sonny Gray (16-3, 2.79 ERA) will get the start for Boston opposite Ryan Gusto (0-3, 4.37 ERA) for Miami. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET.
