Breslow talked a good game at the outset of the offseason, but so far, the results haven't been there.

I want to make this clear before we go any further: Two things can be true at the same time, and in the case of Craig Breslow and the Boston Red Sox, they are.

    1) Breslow had an incredibly impressive offseason last year, and his moves were integral in getting the Red Sox back to the playoffs for the first time since 2021.

    2) Also true? Breslow has talked a good game this offseason, but the results haven't been there, and fans are upset, because the Red Sox belong in the World Series, and so far, moves haven't happened to make that a reality.

    The offseason before 2025

Again, Breslow made multiple moves that made a major difference in the 2025 season. He signed Justin Wilson, who was solid out of the bullpen, and he signed Aroldis Chapman, who delivered a dominant All-Star campaign at closer.

Furthermore, he brought in Alex Bregman on a three-year, $120 million deal and he traded for Garrett Crochet, who finished second in the American League Cy Young voting.

Let's not forget that he also extended top prospects Kristian Campbell and Roman Anthony in season, major wins for the future of the organization.

    And now?

Not much of that matters, because fans are expecting this team to take the next step. Breslow previously said that the organization was going to be "aggressive and decisive," and so far, they've lost out on targets like Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso. They also haven't gotten any re-commitment from Alex Bregman, who opted out of his original deal.

The Red Sox have gone out and made moves, acquiring Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo, however, those moves don't move the needle for most fans. Fans are expecting Breslow to deliver the big bat he's been talking about, and time is ticking.

The Red Sox have been linked to Ketel Marte on the trade market, and they met virtually with Bo Bichette, but until someone is signed, fans will continue to be frustrated by the lack of backing up the talk.

    Now what?

With the winter meetings over, the Red Sox return back to Boston before the holiday season. There is a chance that something breaks in the next 1.5 weeks before Christmas, but if it doesn't? Then, we will probably see a dead spot in action until after the first of the year.
