Former Boston Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers was involved in a benches-clearing altercation on Tuesday night as a member of the San Francisco Giants.
Devers, who was traded from the Red Sox to the Giants in June, hit a home run off Colorado Rockies' lefty Kyle Freeland at Coors Field. Apparently, Freeland didn't like the way that Devers admired his home run, and he had words for Devers as he got to first base.
Devers than began jawing at Freeland, and the benches-cleared, with some punches being thrown. You can watch the altercation below:
That was the 30th home run of the season for Devers, who hit 15 of them with the Red Sox before the trade.
It's his fifth career season of 30 homers or more.
Devers was fined for his actions.
Signed and developed by the Red Sox out of the Dominican Republic, Devers made his major league debut with Boston in 2017. He became one of the best young sluggers in the sport, eventually pairing with Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Andrew Benintendi and J.D. Martinez to make up the core of the Red Sox' 2018 World Series roster. He won the World Series with Boston that season, and became the last-man standing of the Betts, Bogaerts, Devers trio, signing a 10-year contract extension before the 2023 season. Betts was traded before the COVID 2020 season and Bogaerts was allowed to walk in free agency before the 2022 campaign. Devers will now remain with the Giants through 2033.

Despite being a three-time All-Star and a two-time Silver Slugger, there were issues, at times, with Devers's work ethic, as he wasn't in great shape for the 2020 COVID season. There were also issues with his defense, as he led the major leagues in errors each season from 2018-2023.
He balked at being moved off third base this season so that the Red Sox could sign Alex Bregman, and he was reportedly unwilling to move to first base in the wake of the season-ending injury to Triston Casas.
Boston received left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, who has yet to make an appearance at the big-league level. They also received hard-throwing reliever Jordan Hicks, who has struggled mightily since his acquisition. They got top prospect James Thibbs III in the deal as well, but they sent him to the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of a separate trade for pitcher Dustin May.
In addition to the players, Boston got out from under the weight of the Devers contract, which should give them more flexibility this offseason.
Devers and the Giants will take on the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night, while the Red Sox begin a series at the Arizona Diamondbacks.
