The big left-hander remains on the injured list for Boston, which has caused a change to his deal.
As of Sunday, there is officially an amendment to Garrett Crochet's contract with the Boston Red Sox.
As we have been discussing as possible for much of the season, the Red Sox have now gained an additional year of team control on Crochet, who has officially been on the injured list for 120 consecutive days.
So here's what you need to know:
The original deal
Crochet signed a six-year, $170 million deal with the Red Sox in 2025 that took him through 2031. He was given an opt-out after the 2030 season, meaning that he could leave the Red Sox if he wanted, with one year left on his deal, and attempt to hit the free agent market again.
However, if Crochet spent at least 120 consecutive days on the injured list, that player option would void, and the Red Sox would get a team option for the 2032 season, valued at $15 million.
That is what has happened here.
What this means for player and team
Well, this season has essentially been a lost one for Crochet, so the Red Sox have a chance to make that year up in 2032 if they want.
As for Crochet, his current deal pays him between $24.8 and $30 million per season. This option being at $15 million means that he could make significantly less in 2032 if the Red Sox want to keep him.

Still just 27 years old, he's a former first-round pick of the Chicago White Sox (2020), who the Red Sox acquired before the 2025 season. He went 18-5 for the Red Sox in 2025 with a 2.59 ERA, finishing second in the American League Cy Young voting.
This year? Different story. He went just 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA before landing on the injured list. He's working back, but there's no guarantee that he'll return at all this season, even as the Red Sox figure to play into the postseason.
As for Boston
After Saturday night's dramatic comeback win, the Red Sox will go for a sweep of the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon with first pitch coming at 3:15 p.m. ET. Rookie left-hander Matt Wilkinson will start for San Francisco while rookie lefty Jake Bennett starts for Boston.
Bennett has been a revelation this season, going 7-6 with a 3.46 ERA. He was acquired in the offseason from the Washington Nationals for a prospect.
